The Headache and Pain Center physicians have been performing pain management procedures since 1985. Each year we perform thousands of procedures. We are AAAHC Certified, and as well as being accredited, we are also proud to be Physician Owned. The list of investors are available upon request.
A comprehensive plan of care and a fully understandable explanation of our recommendations will be provided to you prior to treatment. An individual plan of care may include the recommendations such as behavioral, psychology, neurology, orthopedics, physical therapy, aquatic therapy, and other forms of patient therapy.
Pain Management Physicans

Mauricio Garcia, MD
Consultant in Pain Management
Dr. Garciareceived training in interventional pain management at the nation’s premier pain management program under the tutelage of renowned pain management specialists Drs. Prithvi Raj and Gabor Racz. Dr. Garcia trained in anesthesiology at the world famous Texas Heart Institute in Houston and at the Clinica Universitaria in Barcelona, Spain. Born in Los Angeles, California, he received his medical degree at The University Autonomous of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico. Dr. Garcia has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures for back and neck pain including vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and nucleoplasty. Dr Garcia is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian.

Mark Allen, MD, DABPM
Dr. Allen was born and raised in Kansas City. He did his undergraduate and pre-medical education at the University of San Francisco in San Francisco, CA. He graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School and then completed a residency in Anesthesiology at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Dr. Allen then began to practice Pain Medicine in the Kansas City area. In 1993, he moved to Cleveland, OH to expand his Interventional Pain and Anesthesia practice working at the Cleveland Clinic and other private hospitals in Ohio. He is triple Board Certified in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, and Addiction Medicine. He returned to the Kansas City area to practice in 2017 and began teaching at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine. His interest is in Interventional Pain therapies, and, with his background in Addiction Medicine, he is focused on treating the underlying cause of the pain and reducing or avoiding the need for oral pain medications and opioids.

Yaw Sarpong, MD
Consultant in Neurosurgery
Dr. Yaw Sarpong is a neurosurgeon who specializes in spine procedures. He obtained his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and finished his neurosurgery training at the University of Missouri- Columbia. While at the University of Missouri-Columbia, he obtained a fellowship in Bio-Design and Bio-Innovation. This degree allowed him to marry his knowledge of medicine with development of cutting edge technology and as a result, he holds several patents. This degree also guides his practice and he uses cutting edge and innovative technology to manage and treat spinal pathology. He also ensures that his practice is innovative and at the forefront of emerging spinal technologies and treatment.
Orthopedic Surgery
Dr. James K. Brannon, MD
Dr. Brannon received his M.D. degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at King-Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Brannon has a special interest in joint preservation techniques and advanced hip arthroscopy. He invented the technique and instrumentation used in the joint preservation. Dr. Brannon has been with The Headache & Pain Center since 2008.
